"The Pass..."

When they reached the crest of 'the pass' the two men paused. Ahead, not far away but a long way beneath them, stretched the endless desert.

With only a brief backward glance the younger man limped after his friend who was waiting for him ahead. Now they had to go after their last chance, which was a very stupid, but half wise one- to get away from the men at the pass.

They could survive if they had the stamina to absorb heat from the one and only source of original energy- the Sun.

The younger man now had caught up with the older one who, too, had a limping leg, which was injured from the blast of atomic energy that severed the others at the pass.

It was the year 3000 AD, the year when men were supposed to live with the one and only resourceful thing- solar energy. All of this energy came from the suns light, which then with mans technology, was converted into electricity, which was then by an ingenious technique converted into healing chemicals and even food. The process originally changed the world- but led to nuclear wars and the destruction of the innocent.

Now the men who pioneered this climax and invention were being destroyed by the sun in the desert, - but not only by the original source- but also by the machine itself which was called 'The Pass'.

It was a fantastic instrument, which was manufactured by these two men, which made the 'thing' exclusive. The 'thing' was a man, or at least looked like a man which originally was mass-produced by incredible techniques into an indestructible 'thing' named the 'Pass' because it could pass anything from nuclear weapons to rivers of highly concentrated Hydrochloric acid.

The story is as follows: In the year 2999 AD these two men manufactured the 'pass' to be of benefit to man, which one day would or could do anything- that is, produce food, resources, energy or even machinery. But the men had made two mistakes- one was that they made this machine indestructible and the other was that anti-virus firmware had been over estimated. Now after this event, the machine (which looked like a man) turned to destruction of everything in sight.

The men, who at the start of the invention could do anything with 'the Pass', now could do nothing because of the recoil of the electronics inside of it.

They now had a desert in front of them, which was an endless impossible walk. So after realising that their lives were at peak level of destruction they gave up, by surrendering to 'the Pass'. They had no other choice anyway as 'the Pass' could track down and destroy any organism if it was programmed to do so, and it was due to virus corruption.

'The Pass' headed toward these two men at a great velocity, which was about six metres per second. The men just stood there exhausted from the Sun's heat waiting for their hand of fate. They knew it was over for them, after all the work and research they had undertaken. It was useless but the younger man tried to save his soul... he shouted." STOP, I ORDER YOU TO STOP, I WAS YOUR CREATOR, I CREATED YOU FOR PEACE NOT WAR. STOP!" The machine paused for one second just to analyse this information, after which its voice replied. "NEGATIVE, NEGATIVE, NEGATIVE..."

The man thus gave up and he ran towards the pass to 'get over' his fate. He died instantly on touch of the pass, his body disintegrated and disrupted, and was dispersed everywhere, after which it dissipated into infinity. The sight of his friend's death fascinated the other man. He was disgusted also, but he, too had to disgorge and leave 'The Pass' to dominate the world.

"The Pass" is my own composition, it was written as part of my school work! Modifications include substitution of the year 2000 to the year 3000!(So much for imagination)!

"ALARM" is also my own work, I wrote it many moons ago.

                                                           ALARM

I was in the middle of an island, on holiday thinking that I had everything I wanted. I was sunbathing at this moment, listening to my radio thinking also about the pleasure I had been having, swimming, doing everything. It was a very hot day in the summer enough heat to cook a joint of meat if it was left outside.

It was amazing how much time I had spent enjoying myself, lying down cooling off from the heat. Not a care in the world. I decided to go for a drive in my car, naturally one of the best around on the island. I had enough fuel to burn up the island in my car, so I thought I would go on a day trip to nowhere. I just kept driving along, I couldn't care less where I was going, I really didn't have a care in the world. The local radio station was playing some really relaxing music and I felt contented, very cool.

After a while I saw a tunnel ahead. It was obviously a tunnel off the island. I knew this island was paradise but I wondered what other scenery there was. It seemed about ten minutes before I saw light at the end of the tunnel, somehow I was getting nearer to the exit but I was strangely not moving due to some apparent force against my car. I kept pushing the accellerator down but despite the engine responding noisely it seemed I was unable to move the car. The light ahead of me was, however becoming brighter even though I was not moving at all.

Suddenly I saw a fast moving vehicle coing straight for me, very fast. I perceived that it would not stop because even if it did brake it would not stop in time before a major head on collision with myself. Instinctively, I had to quickly escape from my car. I reached for my door at the very moment of impact in an attempt to escape instant death.

As soon as the moment of impact occurred, I heard a noise, it was an alarm, the loudest I have ever heard. It got so loud as I tried to move that I struggled. My head started throbbing and I tossed and turned over.

Suddenly my dream faded away and I found myself lying by the side of my bed watching my alarm clock ring. I figured that it was all a dream as I rose to stop my clock. I had never been so alarmed as this ever.
